The Department of State (DoS) is responsible for foreign relations and is the equivalent of the Foreign Ministry of other countries. The State Department develops policies, plans and programs to achieve the foreign policy objectives of United States at home and abroad. The State Department helps to negotiate treaties between other nations while promoting U.S. interests.

Bureaus and offices cover “regional” or “functional” topics.

BUREAU STRATEGIES
Joint regional and functional bureau strategic planning comprise the second of three stages in strategic planning at the Department of State. This stage is designed to articulate priorities within the Department’s regions and functional areas and outline specific tradeoffs necessary to bring resources into alignment with State Department/USAID goals and objectives. The FBS is also a tool used to inform budget decisions, advise Integrated Country Strategies, and shape performance reviews. If you need additional assistance or have any questions, please email the FBS Support team at FBS@state.gov. Strategies that align with the President’s National Security Strategy are in the final stages of development and will be posted here as they are approved.
